The California board, the games of September 3 and 4

Recruit Intel scored every recorded box score in its database for the window that opens with the games of August 30, and ranked the field by RPM, our Recruit Performance Metric. California's share of that window is 5,594 scored performances across 655 schools, out of 42,053 scored nationally in the same run, computed fresh on September 10. What follows is the 10 highest of those California scores. Every stat line below comes from our canonical database, drawn from recorded box scores, and every player named is verified by record identifier against a 2026 stat row at the school he is credited to.

The 10 highest scores

RPM is a percentile score computed within a position family, quarterbacks against quarterbacks and defenders against defenders, across the full national pool scored in this window. A score near 100 means the performance sat at the very top of its family nationally. The 10 below are tightly bunched, 0.306 of a point from first to tenth, so the order reflects small differences, and all 10 carry the same grade of A+. By class they break 8 from the class of 2027, 1 from the class of 2028 and 1 from the class of 2029. Where the opponent sits on our live team rankings, that rank is printed beside its name, taken from the September 9 ranking run. 9 of the 10 opponents below are ranked in a state where our rankings are live. The rest carry no rank here, either because their state is not in the live set or because their team does not yet have enough rated games to be placed.

This is not a full ranking of every performance in the state. It is the 10 highest that clear our own verification filters, which set aside 11 other California performances inside this same scoring range. How we counted, below, says exactly what those filters are and what they held back.

  • Chris Flores, WR, Murrieta Mesa (Murrieta), class of 2027. Against Rancho Verde (CA #472) on September 4, in a 7-0 win: 17 tackles with 9 solo, 4 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. RPM 99.55, grade A+.

How we counted

The window here is the scoring run computed on September 10 that opens with the games of August 30. Every California line that made this board came from the games of September 3 and 4. Each rests on a sample of one game, and that sample is stated on purpose, because one strong night is one strong night and not a season. The final score beside each line is that game's own result in our database, and an opponent rank, where one is printed, is that opponent's position on our September 9 state ranking run.

Two filters set aside 11 California performances that scored inside this range. Nine of them sit on player records our database does not flag as recruitable. That flag is also what catches the shadow duplicate records our stats loader creates when the same player is written twice, so a board drawn without it would risk printing one performance under two names. The other 2 come from Hoover in San Diego, whose win over Vincent Memorial is recorded twice, once on September 3 and again on September 4, with the same 34-29 result both times. That duplicate counted one game as two and lifted both of the school's scores, so those 2 lines are held until the duplicate is repaired. The score quarantine, which holds games we know are mis-attributed, removed nothing from this range.

Every number here comes from the Recruit Intel canonical database. Each player was matched by record identifier to a 2026 stat row at the school named, with class year checked, so the player credited with each line is the player who produced it. Common names were resolved to a single record before anything was published, and where two records exist for the same player at the same school, only the one our database treats as canonical was scored.
