Mississippi's opening weekend, by the numbers

Mississippi high school football opened its 2026 season the weekend of August 28. Recruit Intel scored every recorded box score from that weekend and ranked the top performers by RPM, our Recruit Performance Metric. What follows are the five highest scores in the state among the class of 2027 and later. Every stat line below comes from our canonical database, drawn from recorded box scores for games of August 28, and each player is verified by record against a current roster.

The top five performers

RPM is a percentile score within the weekend's recorded box scores, so 100 sits at the top of the field. Each performance carries a sample of one game.

  • Jaylin Stowers, ATH, Morton (Morton), class of 2028. A full two way game against Newton County: 19 of 23 passing for 318 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions, 10 carries for 160 yards and 2 scores with a long of 55, and 7 tackles with an interception on defense. RPM 99.6, the top score in the state.
  • Jack Moore, Vardaman (Vardaman), class of 2027. Ran 19 times for 188 yards and 6 touchdowns with a long of 64 against Nanih Waiya, and added 7 tackles, a forced fumble and 2 pass deflections. RPM 99.3.
  • Sanjiya Hickman, Nanih Waiya (Louisville), class of 2027. In that same game against Vardaman he caught 6 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns with a long of 75, ran for a third score, and posted 7 tackles with a forced fumble. RPM 98.9.
  • Tramarion Davis, QB, McComb (McComb), class of 2028. 12 of 22 for 311 passing yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions against Tylertown, and he ran for 47 yards and another score. RPM 98.4.
  • Garrett Adcock, RB, Leake Academy (Madden), class of 2027. 23 carries for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns with a long of 59 against Riverfield Academy, with 48 kickoff return yards added. RPM 98.4.

Two of the state's top three came out of one game. Vardaman visited Nanih Waiya, and both Jack Moore and Sanjiya Hickman turned in scores inside the state's top three, one on the ground and one through the air.

How we counted

RPM is a percentile score computed within the weekend's recorded box scores, so a 99 means the performance sat near the very top of every game we scored. Each line above rests on a sample of one game, the season opener, and that sample is stated on purpose, because a single strong night is a single strong night and not a season.

Every number here comes from the Recruit Intel canonical database. Each player was verified by record against a current 2026 roster, including class year and school. Common names were resolved to a single record by school and class before anything was published, so the player credited with each line is the player who actually produced it. Two of the five carry no listed position in our database, so we named them by school rather than guess.
